Online schooling is a system of education where students attend a school that is online. Online schools work in exactly the same way as conventional schools with assemblies, real classes taught by qualified teachers, timetables, break times, homework, after school clubs, competitions and school trips. Online schooling is a popular alternative to conventional schooling. During the Covid 19 pandemic millions of students were forced to learn online. Tens of thousands of parents discovered that their children learn much better online and attained higher grades. Many commentators and education experts believe that the pandemic accelerated an inevitable shift to online schools for particular kinds of student who are not sufficiently catered for in the conventional school system.

Particularly suited to higher ability learners, online schooling allows students to attend classes from the safety, convenience and comfort of their own home. Students aren’t required to sit in a physical classroom in a conventional school miles away from home. They can simply set up their online classes on their computer, laptop, or tablet from home or from anywhere there is an internet connection.

Most parents who choose online schooling do so because their child is motivated to learn but find learning challenging in conventional schools. These common challenges include noisy classrooms where the teacher is difficult to hear, students unable to see the whiteboard, large class sizes, teachers pre-occupied with teaching lower-ability students, non-specialist teachers, support assistants teaching lessons, poor behaviour, distractions, intimidation, bullying, social pressure and anxiety.

Conventional school is organised at a physical location. Students are required to commute to and from school which can mean students arrive stressed, late and tired. They receive lessons in physical classrooms that are often distributed across a large complicated campus which are often stressful to get to in the minimal time available. This movement between physical classes is disruptive, noisy and stressful for many students. This time away from teachers is also an opportunity for poor behaviour and even bullying. Physical classrooms are often noisy, disruptive and distracting. Physical classrooms also make behaviour management a challenge for teachers. Physical classrooms are the perfect stage for classroom clowns and for overly dramatic exchanges and conflicts. Physical classrooms make differentiation in mixed-ability groups particularly challenging resulting in higher-ability and lower-ability students not receiving the special attention they need. The teacher is not aware of raised hands if they are supporting individual students in one corner of a physical classroom, students stop holding up their hand when they realise the teacher can’t see them or they shout and scream for attention adding to poor behaviour and a noisy, stressful learning environment.

Online school eradicates all of the disadvantages of a physical classroom. Students interact with their teachers and peers through their computer/laptop/tablet screen. Teachers are always in the right place to support students and there is no space for poor behaviour meaning classes are quiet, controlled and stress-free.

At St. Dzeusif School, advanced online learning software systems and audio-visual elements are utilised to make classes engaging, stimulating, and retentive. All lessons are video-recorded so students need not waste valuable lesson time taking notes they often can’t read. The school’s vast archive of video-recorded lessons makes catch-up and revision for examinations a breeze. This approach makes online schooling a great choice for students between the ages of 7 and 19.

All of these advantages mean that St. Dzeusif online students are happy and confident. Consequently St. Dzeusif online students attain significantly higher grades and progress to better Universities.
