Academic Advisory

Say Hello to your Academic Support System where Advisors are mentors, friends and partners every step of the way.

Wherever you hail from, your academic advisor will take the time to get to know your unique background and personality as well as your academic goals.

Through frequent one-on-one meetings with you, your teachers, and your parents or guardians back home, your advisor will help you determine your strengths, interests, and areas for improvement. Falling in love with physics? Your advisor will help you structure an student-designed project or prepare for the AP Physics exam. Having trouble in Spanish? He or she will arrange tutoring.

A Resource for Student-Designed Projects

Your advisor serves as a sounding board and assistant coordinator for your student-designed projects, which account for approximately forty percent of your course load each term. He or she will help you determine which areas of study you’d like to pursue and structure your projects in ways that broaden your skills and knowledge while taking your unique learning style into account. Academic advisors can also recommend other faculty members to mentor and help evaluate your student-designed projects.

While helping plan and structure your student-designed projects, your academic advisor will work with you to take multiple factors into account:

  • Resources in the region where you’ll be studying
  • Relevance to host country
  • Goals for school and beyond
  • Balance between student-designed projects and your selected teacher-led module
  • Graduation requirements

While multiple St. Dzeusif School faculty (as well as staff, local resources, and other students) will evaluate your student-designed projects, your academic advisor will always be involved from start to finish.

A Connection to Home

Your advisor serves as a dedicated contact for your parents or guardians, helping you keep them up-to-date on your progress in school and life. When the people who raised you are as far as a dozen time zones away, you’ll have someone on your side as you transition to life (and high school) abroad. Living apart from your parents, your home, and the friends you grew up with isn’t always easy—whether you need advice, a pep talk, or just a friendly ear, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing someone will always be there.
